Inquiring minds would like to know...
What is a cottage bakery?
In 2013, Texas Legislature enacted House Bill 970 which allows a cottage (AKA mi casa) food production operation that allows home entrepreneurs (yours truly) exemptions from the requirements of a food service establishment. What this means is cottage operations do not have to comply with Texas Food Establishment rules. Health departments do not have regulatory authority to conduct inspections of a cottage food operation. This allows small businesses to be able to thrive without being in a brick and mortar. However, I can assure you there are food safety and distribution rules that HOTBLLC abides by including:
-
Food Manager Education and Certification (certificate/ID# available upon request) - recertification required every 5 years
-
Food Handling Education and Certification (certificate/ID# available upon request) - recertification required every 2 years
-
Direct to consumer transaction
-
Required labeling information required by Cottage Food Production Operations
How do I place an order?
Let's connect! Head on over to the Contact page! Let us know your event date and what you're looking for! We do require you reach out at a minimum of 2 weeks prior to your event to ensure we plan and design accordingly. Any orders with less than 2 weeks' notice will be subject to rush fees depending on availability of the weekend, complexity of the design/size, and supplies needed. Rush fees will be included in initial quote. Wedding cakes are typically booked up to a year in advance as they require additional planning, contact us early in your planning to block your date!

What if I have food allergies?
We at Heart Of The Batter know how important it is when it comes to certain food allergens. Cakes/cupcakes do contain the following major allergens: Eggs, Milk, Wheat, Color dyes as applicable in frosting. Please specify allergens when we connect and we will strive to eliminate contact with known allergens at the best of our abilities. Our dessert shop does not specialize in allergen-free products, therefore a 100% allergen-free product cannot be guaranteed at this time.
Texas heat is like armageddon to cakes/cupcakes, what's the best way to display for an event?
Any cake/cupcake is not meant to withstand outdoor elements. If you're sweating puddles, your cake/cupcakes are also sweating! Cakes/Cupcakes/Macarons are not meant to withstand outdoor elements. Heart Of The Batter LLC will not be held liable for damage following outdoor set up. Temperatures above 70 degrees can have drastic adverse effects.

Check back often as I'm continuing to always build my sweet inventory! Being a one woman show has it's current limitations but patience my sweet ones! Great things to come!
